Leaving Vermont

A whole month of fun feeling like home.
One day I woke up to the sound of frogs croaking.
The sun had just risen.
I heard the bees buzzing.
I ran outside knowing the real world was coming back.
I could hear the leaves rustling in the wind.

Standing on the wet grass being dried from the sun.
I looked around.
That was it. That house would never be ours again.
I bent down;
Seeing a toad hopping away.
I heard the car start.
And I knew it was time to let fate take over.
