The Forest

As me and Yaya walk along the overgrown path
Jeff’s out-house comes into view.
I love it like a dressing room.
A salamander scurries across our path to a mushroom as the dim light shines on the creek through the trees.
As we walk up to the creek the sound of wildlife fills the air.
As we walk up the path to the creek the sand and dirt feel cold on my feet.
I find a tall rock in the water it’s slippery but I grip it with my feet.
I feel like I’m the queen of the creek.
The sound of my grandma teaching me how to read the waves startles me but she grabs my hand before I fall.
