In the Great Salt Marsh
I saw an egret
White as snow
Standing in the tall grass.
I saw two sandpipers,
Legs thin as pencils,
Beaks straight and pointed like spears.
In the forest I saw a deer.
When I quietly walked toward him
He froze like a statute.
In the treetops
I saw a warbler,
Yellow as a lemon.
In the rocks at the edge of the water
I saw a tiny crab,
Pink as a cherry blossom.
