Jaguars

Jaguars jump
And sneak
And leap
And pounce
From branch
To branch

Like a sleek ribbon of light

Twining my tail around
The branches
Of my tree
Now to hunt
To eat
To tear
Off the meat
From a dead carcass
Yum for me
But not for you
Blood spattered on my fur
Running
Jumping
Sleek like ice
That carcass paid the price
To me
For energy
Now the cubs
Soon fed
Now now time for bed

In the morning
At the crack of dawn
I’ll go capture an unlucky fawn

For the meat
And the blood
Rain starts falling
Not a flood

Gracefully flying
To the den
For the cubs
All over again
