Your wings bent
When you left your chrysalis
So you watch
Your only companions
Fly away to birth eggs
As you once were
But you stayed
Unable to fly
Unable to leave
So I kept you
And fed you
And gave you a home
Let you crawl on my finger
As if it was a tree branch
As your siblings left the mesh box
And the sounds of their flapping wings left the air
I watched you
Like a mother watches a child
And loved you like that too
Until you left the windowsill
I loved you.
