Where I’m From

I’m from a tropical archipelago, towering fruit trees, thundering rainy days, blazing heat, sandy beaches on the Pacific Ocean and across the world. Bird watching all spring, and school every day. I’m from sweet mangoes, spiky red rambutans, and stinky durian, pancit and adobo, Chocolate bubble tea and sushi – my brother’s favorite. Thai take-out, pepperoni pizza on Saturdays, and tostadas on weekdays. I’m from friends scattered across the States, family across the world. Family in the country and my parents working all day. Wind Over Water

Wind over water Sky over sea Riding the ocean Come, wait for me Alone on the sand Waiting for thee Riding the ocean Come, wait for me The birds are a-chirping The skies are like new The wind is a-howling An endless dome of endless blue Shimmering so brightly Too bright for my eyes Hoping for a dream That will never come true Walking on air I’ve grown my wings Falling through clouds Flying with glee Singing to sleep Drifting alone Flown to you Not on my own Waiting for sunshine Waiting for rain Waiting for lightning Waiting for wind … Continue reading Wind Over Water

2 People, A Poem for Two Voices

I walked around the corner and paused I saw a person in front of me as still as a statue I see someone I look there is eye contact Silence Silence I take a step forward I look at the person as if I could see their soul Then I take a step forward And then we walked down the street as if we had known each other our whole lives Continue reading 2 People, A Poem for Two Voices

A First-Class Passenger, Titanic

The gigantic and famous ship that exists There is a bitter wind on the deck That blows through my hair I can even take a little jog As the morning awakes I can go to the gym And even the swimming pool I will go to the cafe for brunch And have pancakes with tea At 12 a.m. I’m playing cards with my friends I am forced off my chair by the shake I brush myself off And go change my brand-new outfit I hear the captain run His legs are trembling, his mouth open in shock I run after … Continue reading A First-Class Passenger, Titanic

Cheetah

I chase the cheetah Down The footprints Left in mud Are strong, deep and dark I don’t run I am secured in tech But the cheetah Is wide open Its soft yellow fur And random black spots Running down At top speed But then I see a new one Old, and worn out Perfect, I think Aim and capture In my net It doesn’t fight Just sits there Waiting to be killed I stare at it It stares back With its Swollen red eyes In tight slits Not yellow nor orange Just grey and brown Looks at me With that … Continue reading Cheetah

The Race

“Nine and ten please come to the starting line,” calls the referee. “Are you ready?” my dad asks. “I think so,” I say, jumpy. Standing at the starting line, the referee raises his starter’s pistol. Shivering, scared at the sight of the gun-like starter’s pistol. Its boom, like a gun; its shape, like a gun, near or far. BOOM!! With a jump, everyone sprints down the course. I run the course, up a hill. Keep going, keep going. You’re almost to the finish line. I run the course, around a bend. Maybe around this bend is the finish line. I look, desperately, … Continue reading The Race

Life

Tick, Tock, There goes the clock. Its hands reach out to grab me as time sucks my soul away. I am slowly fading. With every step I take towards the clock, I can feel myself growing older. I don’t know why. All I know is that there is nothing I can do about it. I am just a pawn on this empty chess board. But wherever I go, Whatever I do, I start to evolve Into something new. Life is interesting, exciting and fun. It gives me a challenge every now and then. And I couldn’t wish for a better … Continue reading Life

Pencil

Scratch, scratch, scratch, Skin-colored octopus tentacles come, squeeze me force me to use my gray blood to write hundreds of words When there is no more blood, I must go to get my tongue shaved again so there is more lead like blood Until I start to shrink Until I cannot be strangled anymore then, I am crammed into another box but instead of young, fresh, ones, I am with pencils that are, like me, USELESS Continue reading Pencil

A Stormy Day

Today is stormy. In the middle of my Sunday fun day, I wanted to go to the beach and feel the heat. But like I said, Today is stormy. In this perfect Sunday that was my fun day, I wanted to go to the carnival and ride the Marvel roller coaster. But again, today is stormy, on my perfect Sunday fun day. It could have been Monday that wasn’t Sunday. But I said again twice like rolling dice, today is stormy, my Sunday fun day, is ruined. Continue reading A Stormy Day

A Lone Fox

An independent creature like it has no friends. A wise fox; it sneaks through the night barely making a sound. Quiet as a highly-trained ninja. If you had a quick glance at it you would think it was the forest floor. It tiptoes through the night and day. Its furry toes barely making a sound. Its small sneak attacks always work for it, it always comes home with food. With it barely trying, the farmers can barely know why their chickens are missing. It doesn’t have any real friends but it know the forest like a friend or companion, It … Continue reading A Lone Fox

Paper

Why do I have to be scribbled and written on every day? Why do I have to be stripped from a tree? Every day I get scratched by a horrid pencil. Is there anyway to stop that? NO. Lucky

She’s as sly as a fox But graceful as a swan Her black fur twisting and turning into the night She lunges like a blood thirsty tiger She protects like a guard waiting for criminals She strikes with her fangs Then she slowly slides back into the shadows She’s as lucky as a clover But curious as a rabbit Her black fur crumbling with the dirt She leaps like a kangaroo She guards like a protecting mother She digs with her paws Then she is whisked away into her burrow Continue reading Lucky
